Fellow Patriots,
The Sacramento County Board of Supervisors is having a board meeting to “endorse” Obama’s Healthcare Reform Bill. We need to show up in force to stop this from happening…heres why:
There are a couple of interesting points to consider in regards to the Sacramento County Board of Supervisors even considering a resolution supporting the so called “healthcare reform.”
1) The Sacramento County Board of Supervisors has no jurisdiction to make health care policy, so why are they trying to tell other elected officials what to do?
2) Should a resolution pass, this would basically give political cover for Doris Matsui and give a talking point for those in favor of HR3200 to vote “yes” on the bill. Imagine the headline, “The Sacramento County Board of Supervisors supports these needed reforms,” it then gives a huge talking point to supporters of “Obamacare.” What is to stop Congresswoman Doris Matsui from saying, “The county I represent supports this health care bill.” ?? She has an adopted resolution from elected officials from her county saying that they support it. She could even go so far as to say that everyone in the county supports it because the Board of Supervisors represents the entire county of Sacramento (all 1 million plus people). We must remember that the Sacramento County Supervisors are ELECTED officials. We have 5 Members of the Board each elected by their districts. No matter if you live in a city or in the unincorporated parts of the county, you elect a County Supervisor!!!! The County includes all cities.
3) At this board meeting, because it is a public hearing, every person who signs up to speak using a speaker card has the legal right to be heard. What this means, is that if 1000 people all sign up to talk, they have to be given their 3 minutes to address the board and say what they feel about the action item. Think about this, that would be 3000 minutes of guaranteed testimony that the Board would have to listen to if 1000 people all signed up to talk. That’s over 43 hours of testimony!!!! (and they can’t stop you from talking)
This resolution was introduced by County Supervisor Roger Dickinson who is also a candidate on the Democratic ticket for the State Assembly next year. Roger is playing politics (and supporting his political ally in Doris Matsui) with his elected position (which under CA law is listed as a NON-PARTISAN office).
Roger is ORGANIZING UNTION SUPPORTERS to come to the meeting to try and get support for his ill founded resolution. If only the unions show up, the resolution may pass.
Right now, there are 2 votes against it, 1 for it and 2 undecided. The 2 undecides will defeat this resolution, but only if they hear from their constituents and the people.
Right now the item is scheduled to be heard at 4pm on Tuesday, August 25. Once published on the agenda for a certain time, the item cannot be heard before the listed time. However, if the board meeting is running long, it can be heard later than 4pm.
If everyone who came to Lungren’s town hall came to the Board of Supervisors meeting, it would overwhelm the board chambers and there is no time limit on public comment, so everyone can and will be heard if they fill out the speaker form before and during the hearing.
The meeting is held in the Board Chambers at 700 H Street.
